The HIT program was developed from deep research and experience in many different fields and with many different teachers and coaches. Chris' father was a top junior long-distance runner, Norwegian special forces member, ski instructor and equipment tech for the U.S. Olympic cross-country ski team. He was his soccer coach for years, and trained him in many physical disciplines. His parents also placed him into as many sports as possible. He graduated through two ski schools, the local swim school, and earned a first degree black belt in Karate. He also competed for many years in soccer, tennis, golf and skiing.
His mother was a computer programmer, and ran her own business. She gave him a deep love for complex systems, problem solving and puzzles. This was further augmented by his teachers at the Orono school system. The schools consistently rank in the top few percent of schools in the country, and he was in their honors program from fifth grade until graduation. They gave an excellent background in math, English, and the physical and social sciences. The teachers focused heavily on critical thinking, drawing your own conclusions, and looking at the bigger picture.
After high school, he was in the honors program at the University of Minnesota, where he got a B.S. in Genetics, Cellular Biology, and Development. The classes there further honed his analytical mind, and gave a strong understanding of the scientific method and the human body. He also took classes in neuroscience and neuropsychology that increased his understanding of the mind. While at the university, he received valuable training from his fraternity (Phi Gamma Delta), where he served on the board twice, and from one of the leadership programs through the school. The fraternity focused on leadership, teamwork, and organization; he also became the person for any internal mediations that were required. The university's leadership program focused on team-building, communication, and inclusivity.
What really changed everything was realizing after a year of lab work that he had no interest in doing lab research as a career, nor any interest in the other applications of the degree. This was extremely disappointing, but also left him intensely curious. How had he made all of these seemingly logical decisions and plans, without realizing that it would never satisfy him as a career?
He then dug even deeper into a study of the mind, both through reading and meditations, continuing the process started in college. The focus this time was on self-awareness, motivations and emotions.
He has practiced many different forms of meditation through the last fifteen years, including obtaining certifications in Qigong and Reiki. Each one, if done regularly over a period of time, offers a different perspective. They can be very useful in working on focus and awareness, but time consuming and somewhat specific in application. He started to wonder if you could somehow meditate in a way that causes growth the way the student prioritizes, not the teacher.
While doing his research, he gained essential experience in emotions, communication and patience, as well as new perspectives on people, while working in the service industry to pay the bills. He worked as a server, trainer, supervisor and manager. This greatly improved his interpersonal skills as he helped guests and worked with, trained and managed others.
In his twenties, he developed stretching, running, and lifting routines from his training in various disciplines. They were designed to reinforce and enhance each other, but to also work individually. He used, perfected, and trained others in them for years before he considered adding any complex mental or emotional aspects.
Eventually, he started experimenting with adding complexity to the routines by combining research from various fields, striving to find a way to get more out of his finite time, not even realizing the effects that stacking workouts would cause. The stretching routine proved especially capable of incorporating many layers, and being very powerful in effect.
In 2016, he finished the process of combining all of the different mental, emotional, and meditational aspects to the routines to create the Harmonic Integrative Training program. The sum has proven significantly greater than the parts, which has been confirmed by clients. Not only is it highly effective, but it helps the client build and grow in the directions that are most important to them. This is the first of the next level of self care and development.
